Buncombe County CBA Meeting: November 14, 2006

Photos and article by FastFred Ruddock

My birthday gift to myself was attending the Buncombe CBA meeting the eve of my birthday Tuesday November 14th. I rode from Charleston to Columbia with a helmet but decided to take the helmet off for the rest of my trip to the cove then Asheville and the cove again. I reckon I was more inclined to wear a helmet in South Carolina than North Carolina since SC respects my right to decide. I had a couple of cops follow me briefly in WNC and Asheville in particular but none attempted to stop me for refusing to wear a helmet in North Carolina.

As always Larry Blankenship knows where the best food in WNC is located; I had a supper that could not be beat prior to the meeting at Home Folks located at 1459 Merrimon Ave. in Asheville, North Carolina. Buncombe County meets there every second Tuesday of the month. Larry ran an excellent and fun meeting meeting. James Buckner the Western District Coordinator gave an account of what was going on at the state level as well as sharing a few laughs. Roger Williams was selling a few products and gave an in depth legislative report. Due to state level elections the meeting ran about an hour and a half.

If you find yourself in the Asheville area consider dropping in on this crowd and making some new friends while you learn about biker rights. The Buncombe County chapter of CBA/ABATE of NC has a web site you should visit to learn about the Hot Springs Motorcycle Weekend if for no other reason!
