Peachtree Rock

Photos and article by FastFred Ruddock

Peachtree Rock is a large sandstone formation shaped like an upside-down pyramid or as some say the state of South Carolina. You can gain entry to the Peachtree Rock Preserve from more than one road or entrance. The rock's strange shape is a result of the erosion of the softer lower layers of rock and sand While the harder upper layers of hard, coarse-grained sandstone eroded at a slower rate. A small waterfall tumbles into a nearby pool. This is the only cascade in the South Carolina sandhills or coastal plain.
