GearWrench Ratcheting Combination WrenchUsing a GearWrench as a ratchet with a 1/4" bit adapter.I found that a standard 1/4" allen wrench will not fit where it is needed to remove the intake manifold from my 2003 FLHT. Fortunately Sears had a sale on Craftsman Ball End Hex Keys. I visited my local Lowes and obtained a 3/8" GearWrench with Flex Head. Using my vise (grandpa's vise), my hacksaw, and a Starrett bi-metal hacksaw blade (32 teeth/inch KBS1232-2) I cut the 1/4" ball end allen. I converted the allen wrench into a shorter version for tight spots and a shorth ball end hex bit. The shorten 1/4" allen wrench fit just right in the tight space for breaking the bolts loose. My new ball end hex bit, 3/8" GearWrench and 1/4" bit adapter allowed for quick removal of the rear bolts of the HD mainifold. Installation of the new gaskets and mainfold was quick and easy.
Special thanks to my dear friend and fellow Sons of Liberty Rider Member Ranger. Ranger described how he made a special tool from a 1/4" allen wrench and 7/16" nut using a hacksaw and heliarc welder. This provided the inspiration for my article. ~FF |
