Whether you are on the Carolina coast or in the mountains there are fine events supporting biker rights to choose from this weekend. The Macon CBA event in the hills or the G-Town Meeting on the coast are both excellent choices. I will begin my weekend on Thursday in order to attend court for a helmet ticket. I only expect a court date to be set after a lengthy wait this trip. After court I'll endeavor to refill the propane tank at the GRCMMCC. WNC Architectural Sights: Asheville City Hall, Buncombe Courthouse, 176 Green River Bridge, and Summit Lake Dam
A pleasant ride to Asheville to run errands and photograph a few buildings leads to leaky dam. After shooting photos of the city hall and courthouse I stopped by French Broad Brewing for another half-gallon of their fine Oktoberfest Lager. A quick ride to the frig and then a ride through Saluda lead to the old US 176 bridge across the Green River. While visiting the bridge I noticed a well beaten path that lead me to Lake Summit and the dam. I was amazed how much the old concrete dam leaked. The lake is about two feet below the spillway and currently only allows water used for electrical generation back into the Green River over a mile down stream at the powerhouse. Macon County chapter hosts it's annual fall run starting at the "turnout" on Hwy 441 just north of Sanderstown Road (next to Mountain City Homes) in beautiful Franklin, NC. The first bike out on the run at 10:00 a.m. and last bike out by noon (all bikes back by 3:00 p.m. for awards, prizes and raffles) on Saturday ($10 donation per hand).
